Error while adding an Addon domain in cPanel account

Error while adding an Addon domain in cPanel (sorry the domain is already pointed to an IP address).

cPanel/WHM is an easily managing control panel for Linux web hosting servers. You can create accounts for hosting, you can add sub-domains, Addon domains, parked domains from the control panel cPanel. We have discussed a lot about the control panel WHM/cPanel.

In this article, I explains a quick fix for the error pasted below while adding an Addon domain on an existing cPanel account. It’s very simple if you have root access to server.

If you have only the cPanel access, you can contact your hosting provider and ask them to add the domain as Addon.

sorry the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server“.

Yes, This is a common issue while adding Addon domains in cPanel. The below pasted screen-shot showing the error message.

Detailed error message

Error : Using nameservers with the following IPs: xxx.4x3.xx9.2x,6x.xx8.xx9.1xx Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Solution

You can simply solve this error from your WHM panel. There is an option called “Allow Remote Domains” in WHM tweak settings.

Switch ON the option “Allow Remote Domains” to add new Addon domains that having name servers other than your server. Follow these steps to enable it.

Do follow these steps

Step 1 : Log into WHM panel as root user.

Step 2 : Go to Tweak Settings

Step 3 : Search for “Allow Remote Domains

Step 4 : Turn ON and save.

Login to WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings >> Find "Allow Remote Domains" option under Domain group and turn ON it >> then SAVE.

FYI

This settings allows creation of parked/Addon domains that resolving to other servers (e.g. domain transfers) This can be a major security problem. If you must have it enabled, be sure not to allow users to park common Internet domains. Please make sure that this option is turned OFF after adding Addon domain.)

Hope this steps help you!

  2. Hello
I followed all the steps and managed to add fields that are under nameservers third.
Then I went to the registry provider and changed the ns for my server, but it’s been more than 2 hours and still can not access the contents of my main domain folder through this additional domain.

    What may be occurring

  3. Thanks, this helped out. Seems it’s off on default but first time I saw it in it’s default state in a pre-configuration. Cheers.

  4. Works like a charm!
    Thanks a lot!

What about “Please make sure that this option is turned OFF after adding Addon domain.” – is it necessary if I am the only user of the hosting (it’s a VPS)?
